Jonjo O’Neill’s horses are beginning to strike form and his unexposed Barrie Burn is of serious interest at 4/1 in the 2.50 Market Rasen.
The five-year-old has shown far more promise than his form figures suggest and was heavily backed on his reappearance at Aintree only to be pulled up three from home after seemingly looking to be going well.
Something was clearly amiss with him that day, and I am convinced that he could be potentially leniently treated off a mark of 110
The gelding’s staying on second to Silver Gypsy over two miles at Uttoxeter last November suggested that he would really come into his own over longer trips, and today’s 2m 5f journey should be ideal.
His shrewd connections have clearly trained him with handicaps in mind, and this is a weak looking race which represents a golden opportunity for him to open his account if he is over what troubled him last time out.
At 4/1 he is too big a price for a horse with plenty of potential in a poor contest, and I would not be surprised to see him heavily backed and shorten up significantly come race time.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Barrie Burn (4/1 generally available – BOG)
