Two Wolves Wagers

Caracal  a cracker at 13/2

Irish raider Caracal has been given a huge chance by the handicapper in the opener at Wolverhampton (2.10) and makes plenty of appeal at 13/2.

Gordon Elliott’s charge ran a cracker when staying on well in a handicap at Dundalk back in September to finish a close up third off a mark of 62 and gets into this on an official rating of just 55.

Since that run he has been kept busy over hurdles, and will certainly not be found out by lack of fitness.

The gelding also had some pretty decent form as a juvenile when trained by Mark Johnston, including an excellent second to Edinburgh Knight on the all-weather at Lingfield.

The winner recently won a listed contest at Kempton off a mark of 98, and although it’s a long time since Caracal chased him home it does make him look leniently treated in this line up.

Indeed, the son of Selkirk started life off in handicaps off a mark of 73 for Johnston and now finds himself a whopping 18lb lower.

Another plus is that he is best when coming off a strong pace, and he looks sure to get that this afternoon with plenty of pacesetters in an amateur race where they traditionally go too fast in the early stages and set things up for a closer.

Everything looks in place for a huge run, and at 13/2 he looks overpriced in my eyes.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Caracal (13/2 bet365 – BOG)

Dash in for the 12s about Divertimenti

Divertimenti has dropped to a winning mark and looks overpriced at 12/1 in the 3.20 at Wolverhampton today.

Roy Bowring’s grand old campaigner looked better than ever when registering four victories in 2010 and resumed winning ways over 6f at Warwick in September off a mark of 60.

He followed that win with a good fourth at Leicester off 65, and although he has failed to trouble the judge in his last two starts the assessor has relented and dropped him down to a mark of just 58.

Given that his final win in 2010 came off a mark of 76 that gives him a huge chance from a handicapping perspective, and he has to be of serious interest on a surface which holds no fears for him.

Other pluses are that he gets on extremely well with Russ Kennemore and also has a good draw to exploit in gate 2.

To me he should be no bigger than 8/1 for this, so the 12/1 is simply too big to ignore and represents terrific each-way value.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Divertimenti (12/1 Ladbrokes – BOD, Stan James)
