Violent Velocity is back down to his last winning mark and looks decent value at 6/1 to take advantage in the 2.00 at Musselburgh today.
The gelding has been a grand servant over the years, winning 12 of his 104 starts and finishing placed on 29 occasions.
The John Quinn trained 11-year-old was last successful over a mile at this track last August when running on strongly to beat Border Bandit by 1 1 3/4 lengths off a mark of 60, and followed that up with a decent second to Moral Issue at Beverley off 64.
The veteran has shown that he retains enough ability to win a race of this nature by finishing placed in three of his four starts this season, and the handicapper has given him a chnace by dropping him 2lb to 60.
That is the same as when last successful, and Violent Velocity also has the services of Megan Carberry in the saddle who takes another invaulable 7lb of his back.
Other pluses are that he also came good at this time of the year last season, loves to hear his hooves rattle, and is a dual winner at the track.
Everything suggests a big run is on the cards, and this looks a nice opportunity for Violent Velocity to make it win number 13 of his career.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Violent Velocity (6/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
