Kakapuka is dangerously well-treated at present and looks worth a wager at 15/2 in the 6.45 at Kempton this evening after shaping as if coming back to form last time out.
Anabel Murphy’s eight-year-old is a dual winner on the all-weather surface, and boith those successes have come over course and distance.
The last of those came in a class 5 contest 12 months ago when kakapuka made all and ran on strongly to beat Russian Ice by 1 1/2 lengths off a mark of 66.
The gelding went on to finish a decent third to Strong Man off 70, again over CD, and also ran well on the turf at Brighton last June when a neckrunner-up to Ocean Legend off 67.
He now gets into this class 6 contest off just 57, 9lb lower than when last successful and a career-low.
It gives Kakapuka major claims from a handicapping perspective on the pick of his form, and he shaped as if he could be ready to strike when showing plenty of zest to race to race up with the pace before getting hampered and finishing a 4 length fifth of 10 to Sakhee’s Rose at Wolverhampton.
That run was a step back in the right sdirection, and if building on it Kakapuka looks weighted to take all the beating now returned to a track where he has produced his best performances.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Kakapuka (15/2 bet365, BetVictor, Paddy Power – BOG)
