Whipcrackaway is on a handy mark on his return to the turf in the 3.05 at Bath today and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 14/1.

Peter Hedger’s charge won three times on the level last year, with his last success coming in a 1m 2f contest on soft ground at Goodwood where he ran on strongly to beat Nicolascopernicus by 3 3/4 lengths off a mark of 67.

He now gets into this off just 2lb higher having developed into a useful juvenile hurdler over the winter.

The four-year-old is officially rated 120 in that sphere, and if he can translate the improvement he has shown over hurdles back to the level than he looks well-treated off his current mark.

Another plus is that he has plenty of winning form on soft ground, and with John Fahy – who has ridden him to two of his three wins on the flat – in the saddle everything looks in place for a big run in what looks a winnable contest.

Daily Sport recxommended bet: 2pts each-way Whipcrackaway (14/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
