Wolves v Wigan – The Preview

Premier League strugglers Wolves and Wigan clash today at Molineux (1.30pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1) and in a tough game to call the Latics look worth a  small punt at 100/30.

Wolves have now gone eight league games without a win, losing six and drawing two, and Mick McCarthy’s side have conceded at least two goals in each of their last seven Premier League games –  including their last four at home.

OK, Wigan have lost their last seven league games, their worst run since November 2007, and have only netted once in their last five away league games.

But they do have a good record in this fixture and have won four of the last five meetings between the two sides.

That makes them look a bit of value at the odds on offer, especially given Wolves’ defensive frailties.

Another defeat today would also see Wigan equal the club’s record for consecutive defeats, and I think Roberto Martinez’s  instructions to his players will be to avoid this at all costs.

This is a game which Wigan simply must win if they are to stand any chance of avoiding relegation as they have to face Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United next month.

They must pick up points in games like this otherwise they will be doomed, and that fact will have been hammered home by Martinez.

In what promises to be a real scrap I would rather back them at 100/30 than play Wolves at odds-on. However I would suggest keeping stakes to a minimum.
