Parisian the Punt at 20/1
Parisian Pyramid looks massively overpriced at 20/1 in the 4.05 York and makes plenty of each-way appeal.
Kevin Ryan’s gelding won twice over 6f last year and also finished an excellent fourth in this race off a 5lb higher mark.
He has not managed to get his head in front this season, but showed that he still retained plenty of ability when a fine second to international Debut over course and distance three starts ago.
The grey son of Verglas was beaten just 1/2 a length that day and is now a massive 14lb better of with that rival who re-opposes this afternoon.
Given that fact that he also didn’t get the clearest of runs there is little doubt in my mind that he should finish in front of that rival today, so I can’t understand why he can be backed at nearly three times the price of Internationaldebut.
He has had valid excuses for two below par efforts in his last two starts, finding 7f too far at Ascot last time out, and under his optimum conditions it would be no surprise to see him bounce back.
Connections are also reapplying the cheekpieces and he has a good draw in stall 11 for one that likes to race up with the pace as the middle seemed to be the place to be in yesterday’s action.
Steven Craine, who gets on particularly well with him and was aboard when he last scored at Windsor last June when beating none other than subsequent Group 1 winner Prohibit, is also back on board and everything looks in place for a huge run.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Parisian Pyramid ( 20/1 bet365 – BOG, Blue Square, Coral)
10/1 Haajes value for repeat victory
Haajes holds rock solid credentials in the 2.20 York and looks great each-way value at 10/1.
Paul Midgeley’s gelding gained a deserved victory of the season when coming late and fast to beat Elland Ally at Doncaster three starts ago when he was value for more than the winning margin of 3/4 of a length suggests.
He needs to be held up to the latest possible moment, and having hit the front a shade early idled close home but was always just doing enough to fend off the runner-up.
The gelding then finished a fine fifth of 22 to Magical Macey at Ayr, and his last run when only 6th of 11 to Another Wise Kid can easily be excused as the race wasn’t run to suit.
The seven-year-old was totally unsuited by the slow gallop and could get no cover from an outside draw, and in the circumstances did well to keep on an be beaten 3 lengths.
Today’s big field and guaranteed pace will play to his strengths, and he is certainly handicapped to take all the beating.
He is now 1lb lower than when winning this race last year, and that gives him a huge chance of a repeat victory.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts Haajes (10/1 Betfred, Ladbrokes, Victor Chandler – BOG)
