End of an era – Porn legend Ben Dover retires at 62

For the majority of people if you are asked to name a British porn star you would say, Ben Dover, his name has been synonymous with the porn industry for 4 decades and due to his moniker is well known not only by those with an avid interest in porn but also those who never even watch it.

This celebrated name and face in the porn industry has slept with over 2000 girls in his illustrious career and has been awarded for his exploits 29 times, including collecting a gong for lifetime achievement at this year’s UK adult producers awards, the award for 2018 Legend Of Adult Entertainment secures his induction into the Hall of Fame of adult content providers. This will have been his 15th visit to the event and he previously won the same award back in 1997. Ben (real name Simon) also won the award for Lifetime Achievement/Service to the Industry at the Paul Raymond Awards back in 2015, so you can imagine that his fireplace is very full. The accolades don’t end there for this stalwart of the sex industry, he was also named as one of the 50 most influential people of all time in the porn industry by Hustler Magazine.

The 62-year-old has made the decision to quit the industry after his brush with bladder cancer in 2017. Britain’s best-known porn actor was left tired and weak by the chemotherapy treatment and although he has been given the all clear, he is now not quite the same down there and can’t continue to have sex as he used to. Instead of regular frivolity with buxom wenches, he will be living it up in the warmer climate of Spain and seeing out his many years ahead as an antique dealer. No doubt, actor Tyger Drew-Honey, his child with ex-pornstar Linzi Drew, will fly over to visit the dad he he is very close to.

Well known for films such as ThunderBoobs, Ben Behaving Badly and Posh Birds, he was born Simon James Honey in Kent in 1956 he originally worked as a drummer and cabaret singer with the pseudonyms Lyndsay Honey and Steve Jackson. By 1978 he was working as a stripper with the name Rod Hot when he applied to be an adult model, by 1980 he was acting in porn films and then a few years later he was producing and directing his own pornographic material. It wasn’t until 1994, however, that the illustrious Ben Dover, as we now know him, was born, and the rest, as they say, is history.

It will be a sad day for the porn industry as a whole to say goodbye to one of their most celebrated, acknowledged and recognised cohorts but his legacy will live on with his varied and extensive career, including staring in over 130 porn films and directing more than 120. I am sure he will keep the Spanish senoritas entertained. Hats off to you old chap, you have done the industry proud!
