Barkston Ash has been given a chance by the handicapper and looks decent each-way value at 20/1 in the 3.25 at Thirsk today.

Eric Alston’s charge was last successful over course and distance 15 months ago when easily beating Roboyt Boy by 3 1/4 lengths off a mark of 89.

The seven-year-old wenmt on to finish in the frame on two occasions off 97, and has also posted some solid efforts this season.

They include a 2 lenngth second to the very useful Out Do in a class 2 contest at Pontefract off 88, a solid 1 length fourth of 12 over course and distance and a neck second of 10 to Mississippi at Ripon four starts back.

Although Barkston Ash has failed to sprakle in his last there runs, that has resulted in the assessor cutting him some slack and he is now able to raec in this class 3 contest off 85.

That is 4lb lower than when last successful and gioves him a big shout at the weights on the pick of his form at a track which he runs well.
