5/1 Caldercruix can cash-in on class drop

Caldercruix runs Southwell particularly well and is of major inetrest at 5/1 in the 5.50 there today now dropping back down into the grade which saw him register his last sucess.

The gelding’s last two wins been on the fibresand surface with the last of those coming in a class 5 contest back in March over today’s 7f trip where he stayed on strongly to beat Alpha Tauri off a mark of 73.

James Evans’ charge then ran a stormer when upped in class an finishing third to Dubai Hills in a class 3 contest here over a mile off a mark of 78 where he was beaten just a length after dwelling at the start.

The six-year-old did then disappoint when sent off the 7/4 favourite on the back of that effort for a class 4 mile contest at this venue, but in truth he was far from disgraced despite finishing 6th of 8 to Trois Vallees as he was beaten just 1 1/2 lengths after leading until being unable to find any extra close home.

It’s fair to say that he has not been at his best in three starts since, but all those runs have been in class 4 contests and the last two have been on the turf.

He now drops back down into class 5 company for the first time since scoring over CD earlier in the year, and that may well enable him to get back on the winning trail now returned to this venue as he is now just 2lb higher in the weights.

On his run behind Dubai Hills he looks very well-treared in this off 75, especially with George Downing in the saddle taking another 5lb off his back.

To me this looks the easiest opportuntiy he has had for some time, and at the odds on offer he looks overpriced given his record at the track and rates the best bet on the card.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Caldercruix (5/1 BetVictor – BOG)
