6/1 Gordon Lord Byron ready to cut a dash in Champions Sprint

Gordon Lord Byron will have no problems the testing conditions at Ascot today, and at 6/1 looks the answer to the Champions Sprint (2.20).

The six-year-old is at his best when there is cut in the ground, as he showed when running out the  impressive winner of the 2013 running of the Sprint Cup when forging clear to beat Slade Power by three lengths.

The runner-up has since gone on to develop into one of the best sprinters in Europe this season, winning the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee at Ascot and the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket.

That gives the form a rock solid look, and Gordon Lord Byron traditionally comes good at this time of the year.

He came right back to his best when a 3/4 length runner-up to G Force in last month’s Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock, and now meets the winner – who is unproven on ground as testing as today’s – on 1lb better terms.

Tom Hogan’s charge aslo comes into the contest on the back of  a cracking run to finish runner-up to Olympic Glory in the Group 1 Prix de la Foret at Longchamp over 7f earlier in the month, and will appreciate the drop back down to 6f.

With Wayne Lordan in the saddle, and a potentially good looking draw in stall 14, everything points to a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Gordon Lord Byron (6/1 Betfred, BetVictor – BOG)
