8/1 Drive can Finally get his head in front

Final Drive hasn’t been at his best of late, but is very well-treated on the pick of his form and is strongly fancied at 8/1 to bounce back and regsiter and overdue success in the opener at Wolverhampton today (12.00).

John Butler’s charge has not scored since landing a hat-trick in 2010 but the last of those wins came off a mark of 92 at this venue.   He then went on to run some creditable races in Meydan at the beginning of last year, most notably when a close up third of 14 to City Style and a solid fourth of 14 to Golden Sword.

The son of Viking Ruler now gets into this off a rating of just 72, and significantly was well backed last time out over course and distance in a race won by today’s jolly On The Hoof.

Altough he finsihed a well beaten 7th that day behind Mick Easterby’s charge he ran loose before the start and should not even have run in the race itself.

Connectiosn bizarly let hin take his chance, and after being slowly away he merely went through the motions and never got out of the last pair.

However he was not knocked about, and given that he weas sent off at just 5/1 I don’t think he should be available to back at 8s for this given what went on beforehand.

Other pluses are that he has has won three time over course and distance, and his shrewd handler also does well with his runners at the track.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Final Drive (8/1 sportingbet)
