A BoxNation mega fight tomorrow night which sees the Road Warrior Glen Johnson (53-15 35kos) attempt to dethrone Super Middleweight Kingpin Lucian Bute (29-0 24kos) of his IBF super middleweight title.
Bute won the title back in 2007 and has made 9 successful defences against lower grade opposition. But he has been on my radar since he ridiculously beat Librado Andrade (some fantastic refereeing kept Bute’s 0 intact that night). He is a big cat at the moment, toying and playing with lesser opposition and winning with ease, and I don’t think he is as good as most observers believe he is.
He certainly will have his work cut out against Johnston because as most of Johnston opponents can testify this 42-year-old is super fit and throws plenty of shots not caring what or where he hits.
He has an unbelievable chin and that basically makes up the receipe for 12 hard rounds. I want to see Bute tested and think that Johnson is certainly going to do that. While Bute likes time to land a shot he also wastes a lot of effort trying to ensure he throws the perfect shot and Johnston is going to disrupt his rhythm, rough him up and make this a hard night’s work.
The 8-1 on offer for a Johnston win is a spectacular price and I am going to have a small play that the old boy pulls this out the fire.
