Dutch Uncle the London Gold Cup choice

Dutch Uncle has a progressive profile and makes plenty of appeal at 9/1 in the London Gold Cup at Newbury today (3.10).

Ed Dunlop’s colt imporcde with each of his four starts in maidens, finishing a 3 length runner-up to the clasy Jack Hobbs at Wolverhampton before opening his account in good style when running on strongly to beat Honourable Action by 2 1/4 lengths at the same venue.

Dutch Art  was then off the track for 102 days before running a blinder on handicap debut to finish a neck second to Subcontinent at Doncaster off an opening mark of 79.

The winner, to whom he was conceding 2lb, has come out and won since off 80, and the fourth home King Bolette – who finsihed a length behind Dutch Art won a competitive handicap at Newbury yesterday off 80.

That gives the form a solid look and suggessts a 2lb rise in the weights for Dutch Art could well be on the lenient side.

His current mark of 81 looks exploitable, especially as he is sure to strip much fitter for that outing.

With the prospect of more to come and Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle everything looks in plaec for a huge run.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Dutch Uncle (9/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
