Hollow hot stuff at 8s

Mount Hollow has slipped to a dangerous mark and looks worth a wager at 8/1 to take advantage in the 3.30 at Southwell today.

Andrew Hollinshead’s gelding last scored on the turf at Warwick back in July where he ran on well to beat Tidal’s Baby by 3/4 of a length off a mark of 75.

He got put up 4lb for that effort to 79 and has failed to make the frame in 7 subsequnet starts.

However he didn’t run too badly when finishing fourth of 11 to Bop It in a class 4 contest at Haydock off 78, and now gets into this class 5 affair of just 72.

That gives him a big chance at the weights, and he is now on the same mark which saw him score over course and distance on his sole visit to this venue so far.

The eight-year-old has also ran better than his form figures suggest on his last two starts at Wolverhampton where he has stayed on from off the pace to finish  never nearer than at the finish and it may well be that the combination of headgear (eyeshields and cheekpieces) plus the return to this surface will see him in a far better light.

If it does then there is little doubt in my mind that he is weighted to take all the beating, and with Jack Duern in the saddle he looks overpriced at the odds on offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Mount Hollow (8/1 Stan James – BOG)
