Skylla too big at 14s
Skylla looks worth one last chance at 14/1 to take advantage of her drop in the weights and belatedly get back in the winners enclosure in the opener at Wolverhampton this afternoon (1.20)
has tumbled down the weights and is of serious interest at 5/1 in the 3.50 at Kempton after shaping as if coming back to her best last time out.
Derek Shaw’s filly has not scored since beating Duchess Dora at Haydock back in August 2009 off a mark of 82, but has been placed off marks as high as 92 and is now running off just 65.
That gives her a huge chance from a handicapping perspective, and she was a real eye-catcher two starts when showing all her old dash to lead until weakening inside the last and finishing 6th of 12 to Red Cape over 5f at Wolverhampton.
She failed to build on that effort last time out at Kempton, but she was surprisingly uneasy in the betting that day and was after showing pace to lead after a furlong was for some unknown reason then pulled back to track the pace rather than being allowed to stride on.
If connections revert to her usual catch-me-if-you-can tactics this afternoon I am sure she will be seen in a far better light, and at 14/1 I think she will prove to be overpriced if allowed to do so.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Skylla (14/1 – Sky Bet)
Join Up fancied to follow up
Join Up won with plenty to spare last time out and looks makes plenty of appeal at 13/2 to follow up in the 3.30 at Wolverhampton today.
Mark Brisbourne’s gelding is an ultra tough performer who runs the track well and absolutely bolted up here nine day’s ago in the nads of Racheal Knellar.
The handicapper has reacted by putting him up 6lb, but the five-year-old is still only 3lb higher than when scoring here back in February.
He is also the type who thrives on his racing, and given that the stable has been under a cloud recently due to the virus he is entitled to come on a fair bit for his last run in my eyes.
Given that he has now scored four times at the track a bold showing looks assured, and at 13/2 he looks an each-way steal.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Join Up (13/2 Hills – BOG, Stan James)
