Spiderman set to strike

Course specialist Sammy Spiderman has plenty in his favour in the 2.10 at Ayr and rates the best bet on the card at 11/4.

Alistair Whillan’s nine-year-old runs all his best races at the Scottish track where he has registered four career victories to date.

He looked to be nearing his peak last time out at Newcastle where he put in a solid round of jumping and stayed on at the death to get within 5 1/2 lengths of Playing The Field, and connections look to have found him an ideal opening to go one better.

The gelding is certainly handicapped to take all the beating off his current mark of 85, as his last four wins have come off 84, 90, 95 and 83.

The last of those victories came over today’s couse and distance, and his record at this time of the year in previous seasons has been excellent.

He is also at his best when in single runner fields when the mud is flying, and although the going is currently described as good-to-soft, soft in places it is sure to be very testing and should suit him down to the ground.

Everything looks in his favour, and receiving weight from all his rivals he must take all the beating.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 5pts win Sammy Spiderman (11/4 generally available – use BOG firms)
