Tarkari worth a wager at Wincanton

Tarkari faces his easiest assignment for a long time in the 2.45 at Wincanton and makes plenty of appeal at 12/1.

Evan Williams gelding competed in some top races last season, and after finishing second to Palomar off 128 at Market Rasen went on to race against the likes of Menorah, Oscar whisky and celestial Halo.

Although clearly out of his depth at that level, he did run respectably when an 11 3/4 length third to Oscar Whisky in the welsh Champion hurdle when officially rated 132 and is now back in a grade 3 handicap off a mark of just 124.

That gives him a major shout in this line-up at his best, and although disappointing last time out at Ascot behind Brampour it was a listed handicap hurdle and he had previously shaped much better when fifth of 15 in another listed event at Market Rasen behind Rumble Of Thunder.

A repeat of that run would make him very hard to beat this afternoon and given that he is racing off a 5lb lower mark in a far weaker race he looks massively overpriced at the 12s on offer.

It’s also interesting that connections are fitting him with a tongue tie today, and if that works the oracle it would be no surprise to see him back in the winners’ enclosure.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Tarkari (12/1 Boylesports, Ladbrokes – BOG)
