Thirsk Previews & Tips

9/1 Ishetoo ready to strike

Ishetoo has plummeted in the weights and looks terrific value at 9/1 to take advantage now dropped in class in the 2.10 at Thirsk

Ollie Pears’ gelding has not won since may 2009, but that victory came off a mark of 93 and today he races off just 66.

That represents his lowest mark for four years, and he has shown enough to suggest that he is more than capable of exploiting it.

The seven-year-old showed that he still retains plenty of ability when third to Jungle Bay over 7f at Chester last month, and it looks significant that connections are now dropping him back down to 6f.

He has mainly been campaigned over 7f this season, and to my eyes that trip stretches his stamina to the limit.

His best form has come of 5 and 6 furlongs, and on his fourth behind Captain Dunne in last year’s Gosforth Park Cup at Newcastle he would eat this lot for breakfast.

He raced off a mark of 86 that day, and finished with a real rattle to get within 2 3/4 lengths of the winner.

That was a class 2 contest, and today he races in a class 6 seller.

It will be extremely disappointing if he can’t take advantage of the drop in class, and with Declan Cannon taking a further 3lb off his back he looks absolutely thrown in.

At 9/1 he looks a terrific punt.

Recommended bet: 5pts win Ishetoo (9/1 Stan James)
Prepared worth a punt at 7/2

Prepared shaped like a sure fire future winner on his debut and looks a great bet at 7/2 to open his account in the 3.15 at Thirsk.

Mahmood Al Zarooni was as green as grass in a Newmarket maiden, but after being slowly away kept on in pleasing style under tender handling to finish a never nearer 9th of 20 to Entifaadha.

The winner has since gone on to win the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York in the style of a well above average animal, and the third home Fencing easily landed a listed contest at Newbury and is considered one of John  Gosden’s top juveniles.

That form is extremely strong in the contest of this race, and with Prepared sure to have learnt plenty from the experience he is going to take all the beating.

His stable are also in terrific form, so at 7/2 he looks a solid bet.

Recommended bet: 3pts win Prepared (7/2 bet365 – BOG, Sky Bet)
