Two crackers for Uttoxeter

Poole Master a splash hit at 3s

Poole Master looks good value at 3/1 to give the in-for David Pipe team another winner in the 12.40 at Uttoxeter today.

The gelding opened his account in bumpers at the third time of asking when making all her to slam Railway Dillon by 4 1/2 lengths, and shaped with bags of promise when fourth on his hurdling debut in a hot contest at Newbury.

He took a keen hold and raced enthusiastically that day, but a mistake three from home ended his chances and he eventually weakened to be beaten just over 11 lengths by Minella Class.

However the winner is a very useful sort and the race has thrown up a whole host of useful types that have subsequently gone on to score.

The form looks very strong in the context of today’s contest and sets a high standard for the others to aim at – including the favourite Open Hearted who looked good when winning on his bumper debut but is yet to jump a hurdle in public.

Poole Master’s experience will stand him in good stead against that rival, and his attacking front running style means that he will be taking no prisoners right from the off.

Although he hasn’t been seen in action since Newbury almost a year ago his stable can usually be guaranteed to have their horses fit and ready to go at the first time of asking, and in what looks a two horse race he looks good value at the 3s on offer.

9/2 River ready to roll

The unexposed Ebony River looks potentially well handicapped in the 2.40 at Uttoxeter and makes plenty of appeal at 9/2.

The gelding shaped with plenty of promise last season, and really caught the eye on his first start for Jenny Candish when runner-up at Hexham earlier in the month.

held up at the rear, he made smooth headway two from home to throw down a challenge at the last before being unable to find any extra close home and being beaten just under two lengths by Aland Islands.

It was a highly promising effort after nearly a year off the track, and he is entitled to come on bundles for the run and is sure to be match fit this afternoon.

There is no doubt in my mind that he has the potential to win off his current mark of 106, and at 9/2 he looks the one they all have to beat.
