Deep Trouble looked horse to keep on side when scoring last time out and rates a solid bet at 100/30 in the 3.50 at Kempton today.

Ben Case’s charge has a progressive profile, and after finishing runner-up to Quick Jack in a competitive class 3 contest at Cheltenham in which the form has worked out well put in a career-best perfromance when landing a 13-runner class 1 listed handicap hurdle at Sandown last time out off a mark of 125.

He travelled strongly throughout that contest and after being produced to take up the running between the last two flights was 2 lengths ahead when veering badly right at the last.

At that point his rider performed miracles to stay in the saddle after losing an iron, and after kicking his foot out of the other he straightened out Deep Trouble and booted him out up the run-in to score with far more in hand than the winning margin of a length suggests.

The handicapper has hit him with an 8lb rise for that success, but that could well be on the lenient side as he would have bolted up but for his antics at the last.

To me he looks the type who has plenty more to offer, and I think he is capable of shrugging off the rise in the weights – especially as he now drops down into class 3 company.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Deep Trouble (100/30 Boylesports, Coral – BOG)
