Surging Seas shaped as if needing the run on seasonal reappearance and looks worth siding with at 10/1 in the 4.10 at Doncaster today.

The gelding had some fair form in bumpers when trained by Tony Coyle, most notably on debut when third of 14 to Chidswell at Newcastle.

He held every chnace until being unable to find any extra close home to be beaten 3 lengths, and the winner is now rated 130 over hurdles.

The second, fourth, fifth, and sixth have all also gone on top score over hurdles and are now rated 120, 122, 117, and 124 respectively.

That made Surging Seas opening handicap mark of 99 look on the lenient side, and he shaped better than the bare result off it lst time out at Fontwell when leading two out until weakening badly.

He looks sure to come on for that run, his first for 239 days, and has looked a worrk in progress in four starts since joining Ali Brewer.

The assessor has also been quick to drop him 5lb to a mark of 94, and that makes him a big player in this on the pick of his bumper form.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way  Surging Seas (10/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
