Gypsy Rider is back down below his last winning mark and makes plenty of appeal at 7/1 in the 8.20 at Wolverhampton this evening now dropped back in trip.

The gelding last scored when landing a 7f handicap at Brighton last July when trained by Richard Curtis, where he ran on strongly to get up and beat Hawk Moth by a neck off a mark of 53.

Since then he has posted some really solid efforts to make the frame, including when third of 14 to Perfect Pastime at Lingfield in November off 55.

He was headed close home and beaten just a 1/4 of a length that day, and followed up with a fair sixth of 13 to Spirit of Gondree over a mile at Kempton.

The selection then wasn’t best placed when staying on last from the rear of the field to finish a 6 1/4 length fifth of 12 to Bertie Blue Boy at Lingfield, and was then given a shocking ride when finishing a never nearer sixth of 12 to Ghost Train at the same venue over 7f after encountering a troubled passage.

The five-year-old then found the mile journey beyond him at Brighton lastv time out, and has since been off the track for 76 days and moved to trainer Henry Tett.

Tett has spent the last 3 years working as Assistant Trainer to John Hills in Lambourn and has also worked for the likes of Enda Bolger, Henrietta Knight, Tom George.

Gypsy Rider is his first runner, and off a mark of 51 is now 2lb below his last winning mark.

It’s also interesting that Gypsy Rider’s last success came after a 189 day absence, so the fact he has been given a break may well be a plus.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Gypsy Rider (7/1 generally available – use BOG)
