Selby defends his British and Commonwealth featherweight titles against Ryan Walsh at the O2 Arena on Saturday night and if the Welshman keeps his belts, he will then meet Munroe for the vacant European title.
Boxing bosses have ordered the match and it looks set to happen by early next year.
Selby, who can win the Lonsdale belt outright this weekend, is currently ranked No 7 by the WBC and Munroe has previously fought for world honours at super-bantamweight.
‘The Boxing Binman’ has chalked up back-to-back wins since coming out of retirement earlier this year and posted a 10-round points win over Andy Townend in Doncaster last weekend.
That was an eliminator for the English super-featherweight title, but having weighed 9st 2lbs at a check weigh in three days before boxing Townend, Munroe says making the weight won’t be an issue.
Manager Mike Shinfield said: “I rang Rendall, told him there was the chance of a fight with Selby and he said: ‘OK, I will go for a run.’ He didn’t think twice.”
Shinfield admits it’s been hard to find opponents for Munroe since he launched his comeback and beating Selby would propel him into world-title contention.
Munroe has previously lost to Toshioka Nishioka and Scott Quigg in world-title challenges and his 30-fight record shows wins over Victor Terrazas and Kiko Martinez, who have both gone on to win world honours.
