Roalco De Farges has been given a massive chance by the handicapper and is strongly fancied at 11/2 to land the 3.30 at Newbury today.

Philip Hobbs’ gelding enjoyed a terrific first season over fences back in 2012 when winning twice and finishing a cracking second of 19 to Tidal Bay in the bet365 Gold Cup Chase at Sandown off a mark of 134.

He was then off the track for 644 days before being pulled up in a 3m 1f contest at Sandown, before shaping far better last time out when a promising third to Forebird Flyer at Ludlow.

The nine-year-old kept on at the once pace to be beaten 4 1/2 lengths in the latter without being unduly knocked about and has since been dropped another 1lb in the weights.

That mean that he gets into this off just 127, and on the pick of his form makes him look extremely well-in.

He should also now be back to peak fitness, and if he can build on his latest effort then he has to take all the beating in this with conditions ideal and Richard Johnson in the saddle.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Roalco De Farges (11/2 Coral – BOG)
