Powerful Wind has become dangerously well-treated and is of serious interest at 6/1 in the 5.45 at Bath today.

Ron Harris’ charge is a speedy sort when on top of his game, as he showed when racing up with tje pace throughout and running on strongly inside the last to beat Last Bid by 1 1/4 lengths in the class 3 handicap at York last May off a mark of 84.

The gelding was then upped 6lbs to a mark of 90 and not surprisingly struggled to cope with the rise.

However his mark has slipped as a result and he didn’t run too badly four starts back when going off too hard early doors and finishing second to Alaskan Bullet in a seller at Wolverhampton, and showed enough last time out when fifth of 7 to Church Music in a class 4 handicap at Kempton to suggest he is still capable of winning races.

The five-year-old showed plenty of pace in the latter to chase the leader until and held every chance at the furlong marker before weakening late on and has since been dropped another 3lb by the assessor.

That means that he gets into this off a mark of just 69 – 15lb below his last success 12 months ago and on his lowest rating in two years.

It gives him a massive chance from a handicapping perspective, especially as he now also takes a drop down in grade from his last run into class 5 company and his last win came in a class 3 affair.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Powerful Wind (6/1 bet365, BetVictor – BOG)
